A Very Venezuelan X-Mas Brunch With Other Agency Kids
December 18th 2011
Hi there! I’m back and in good spirits because I just got home (circa 2 hours ago) from a lovely brunch at Guayoyo Restaurant in the East Village. I went to brunch with my good friends Steph & James and their friends a Venezuelan couple, who both ended up being agency kids in the city as well. Everywhere I go I meet other people in the industry and so and so knows so and so on. It’s one incestuous loving/bitter family. We discussed the traumatic events of the new business lady at Rubicam that was killed in the elevator and how the intern that use to be at so and so was on the elevator just before it happened. Traumatic.
Anyway, they were a lovely couple and helped pick out a very Venezualan X-Mas Brunch for us to all share. We started our brunch with some appetizers and then feasted on an assortment of dishes pictured above. All of the food is considered traditional X-mas food in Venezuela. Did I already say that? It was actually my first time eating Venezualan culinary I believe. My favorite was a hen (yes, hen not turkey or chicken) potatoe-ish salad? Also not pictured is that we ate some ‘arepas’ that all have colloquial names. My new friends will be having an ‘arepa’ party some time after the new year. I hope to snap some pictures from their arepa assortment and tag with all the funny names.

Of course what is brunch without alcohol. I went with a white wine sangria. Very fresh and perfect for a nice afternoon.

And of course, we can not leave without fulfilling our sweet teeth (plural since there were five of us). They have different names for their desserts in Venezuela, but for the sake of simplicity we had flan and tres leches cake!
Hope you are in the holiday spirit as well! There’s nothing like x-mas in the city. Although I will soon depart to head down to our nation’s capital for a different holiday city.
