Mission NYS drivers license
June 17th 2011I’m chillin’ at the herald square DMV about 70 people behind getting served and 1 step closer to getting to my goal of being a badass and getting around on a motorcycle. Yes!
Going to the DMV is a bitch. You would think in New York City it wouldn’t be a problem, since what sensible person drives here anyway?
At work we have summer Fridays, which means we get out early to enjoy the good weather! Perks! As for me… I see it as an opportunity to take care of chores like go to the dentist or get my NYS drivers license.
Today I left my house circa 2PM and and after back and forth and getting caught in a ridiculous storm, in which I was getting hailed on!?! I felt defeated…
Let’s say there are two places on 34th street to get your license. There is an express place on 34th and 8th ave, which is really just for renewing licenses… Then there’s a full service one on broadway in herald square.
All signs originally pointed me to the 8th ave office. I have a license from GA… Shoulda been snap, express. I’m from the east village… The tourist infested midtown is not my territory And so I didn’t know my way around. After not being able to find the office at 300 34th street I relooked up offices and saw the one on broadway. It’s not far, only two aves, but its raining… No pouring.
Thank you Google maps, which without I would be incomplete, but I never have a sense of direction at first and end up walking until I realize I’m going the wrong way. It was more like 4 aves for me with the backtracking when I finally arrive to the 1293 broadway office.
Oh boy, long line. I see posters on the way saying go to the 300 34th street office for license renews… And as I’m reading it outloud, nice guy recommends going there cuz it’s way faster… Way better he said. My friendly southern ass thanks him and starts heading back to where I was.
This time i find it.. Get to the information desk, and they tell me for out of state licenses you have to go to Broadway. WTF?
Soaked, defeated, and kind of pissed at the guy who was trying to be friendly I started my way back.. Only to be hailed on. I took refuge under a big skyscraper, wondering what my colleagues were doing on there summer Friday down in the atl. The time was about 3pm. Should I go back to the broadway office when they close at 4pm and there was such a long line?
Me? Defeat? I think not! An hour later… I’m snapping my new driver’s license photo. And now they are serving 264 and I’m 307. It’s 5pm. The doors close at 4pm but if your in the doors you will get serviced. So now it’s just a waiting game.
What better time to sit here and blog while listening to corny old school r&b on the waiting speakers? Suddenly I’m not so defeated… I’m kind of laughing at how funny this all sucks. Also how badly breaking the rules that say no cell phones and no pics. It’s not a cell phone playa … It’s an iPhone! Bam!
Moto-cycle here I come!
